LocaVent: An application to help you review and connect through events easier.

That feeling of local community is a really great feeling. Finding your people who support you for being you! There are quite a few event applications that help you find local events. After researching these applications I learned a lot about how to find local events and even create them. The one thing that I felt was missing with all of these applications was the human element and the ability to review events. I wanted to be able to hear about how the event experience was from people who attended. This would be especially helpful when deciding to go to a regular meet up. It could also be a great way to grow a group and get feedback on what could be improved. I see this application as a solution for individuals who run a group and also those planning to attend an event.

I needed to find a group of participants who use an event finder application like Meet Up. I want to hear about their experience and also about other functionality that would be helpful. I wanted to ask them questions about why they would want to see reviews and how if at all that would benefit their experience.

I need to better understand pain points for these users so that I can address them in the early design phases. I also want to know what pages and functionality I want to include in this application.

There should be a way for events to be reviewed publicly and privately. There needs to be a better messaging system and way for others to connect through the application. Also, there needs to be suggested events that the user may find. Ultimately this application should be an event finder that has reviews of the events, a way to connect to others in the group and also provide feedback to the event leader.

I ran a series of questions to better understand the potential users of this application. I was able to gather 15 people using MeetUp to talk. I learned that they all really enjoyed using the application for meeting friends and finding out about events. I asked more questions about the reviewing part of the LocaVent and why I thought it was important. 70% of participants agreed that this functionality would be useful.

Based on other feedback from the group it seemed like another important function would be the ability to build a way to communicate better. I needed to focus on the messenger functionality of this new application. Also, how can that be integrated to help the community impact feel stronger?

After building the low fidelity prototype I was ready to gather feedback from the group. I was eager to see what was and wasn’t working. I had the participants follow a series of questions. This would help me better understand each user's thinking while using the application.

I had each participant attempt to rate an event, subscribe to a recommended upcoming event and rate a group leader's performance.
I tried to ask about new functionality so that I could ensure this new functionality was designed correctly for the user.

It seemed that the group was able to successfully navigate to review an event, add a review for group leader, and send messages to a friend group in the application. This was very exciting to see and led me to believe we were going in the right direction with these functionality changes.

The final solution was changed slightly after testing was conducted. I was able to see areas where improvements could be made. I was able to think more about the navigation and some pages that could have been consolidated.

The results from the application show it is successfully working and helpful to users. I surveyed the group after using the application for a few weeks and gathered some feedback. 12 of 15 participants said they are using these added features regularly while the other 3 said they use them occasionally.

I think that overall the LocaVent is looking and working as it should. Users seem confident in using the new functionality elements added. The design elements are cohesive and useful for users. All clutter or extra pages have been reduced.
